Nigella hispanica - Alabaster

A statuesque and rather glamorous Nigella, ‘Alabaster’ bears silky white, star-shaped flowers set off by striking dark purple to nearly black centers, all floating above a soft cloud of finely cut, feathery foliage. The luminous blooms give way to wonderfully inflated seedpods—curious, ornamental little balloons that add long-lasting interest to the garden and make excellent additions to fresh and dried bouquets. Easy and rewarding to grow, this charming cool-season annual thrives in a sunny position with well-drained, reasonably fertile soil. Sow during the cool season (Fall through early Spring) or after the last frost in colder climates. A graceful presence in borders and cutting gardens, it grows to about 2–3' high.
