Ideal for both snacking and edging a garden pathway, “Alpine Strawberries” are hardy, easy to grow, and so very rewarding. Fragaria vesca hardly ever goes dormant here in warmer areas, Zone 9, and as such is almost perpetually in fruit and flower. ‘Improved Rugen’ promises larger-than-average fruit and very few, very short runners, so you won’t have to worry about it running amok. The only challenge in growing this plant is keeping the fruit away from visitors’ wandering hands! There never seems to be enough to share, you know? Grows 1’x1’, with 1” sweet red fruits.
